Annelise Kohler
BScN, MSc, CPMHN(C), RN, Psychotherapist
Hi I’m Annelise! I’m passionate about working with folks who identify as Neurodivergent and those who have experienced trauma in their lives.
I have found working in mental healthcare for over 8 years, that natural responses to an overwhelming system that was not built for everyone, are too often pathologized, rather than understood, supported, and accommodated. As an ADHDer myself, I can understand how challenging it can be to live in a world not built for you, and I hope to help you shift from beliefs of “I’m the problem” to recognizing that “the problem is the problem”.
I work from a Neurodiversity-Affirming and Trauma-Informed perspective, which essentially means that safety, trust, transparency, and autonomy are always a priority in the therapy space, and that differences are supported and worked with, rather than seen as deficits that need to be changed.
Together, we can consider exploring identity, working on preserving energy in a highly demanding world, learning to unmask in a safe way, breaking cycles that came from trauma, and working towards self-compassion and self-understanding.
I use a combination of approaches to help support my clients which includes: Internal Family Systems or Parts work, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion Regulation Skills, and Somatic approaches, among others.
In my spare time, I love teaching, playing with my two dogs, collecting rocks, singing, swimming, and painting in bright acrylics.
